About the Meadows
The Meadows was opened in 1999. Walker Healthcare was part of the team which redeveloped the site of the former Offerton Mental Hospital in Stockport to provide a combination of private housing as well as a community hospital.
It provides 80 in-patient beds, some of which operate as respite beds. The range of care services includes intensive intervention for those in crisis, assessment of patients with a functional mental illness, diagnosed or undiagnosed, step down services for Stepping Hill Hospital and on-going services for those with enduring mental health problems as well as those receiving acute physical health care.
The Partnership
The Meadows was built and managed by Walker Healthcare. All care services provided by the NHS. Specialist support, including hotel services, provided by Mitie.
The Meadows successfully completed the 25-year partnerships and is believed to be the first successful handover of an expiring Healthcare PFI project in England. Client: “The success of The Meadows demonstrates how private and public sectors can work together effectively to provide essential health services to local communities. Over the past 25 years, we have seen the benefits of this partnership in the delivery of compassionate, high-quality care for some of our most vulnerable patients. It is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we collaborate closely with experienced partners like Walker Healthcare.”
